/ / 15 Auto Parts that are Expensive to Repair

(Last Modified on: June 4, 2019)

If you have a car that has seriously broken down, it will be hard to come to terms with the fact that you need a part replacement. The thing is, you won’t be able to drive it again until you get the car fixed. It may seem that it is going to cost a lot of money (expensive parts). This is when you may want to get a part replaced instead. Or you may want to simply sell a car for parts.

expensive spare parts

Here are some spare parts with their repair costs:

  1. The Engine and the Cylinders as well

The cost of getting your engine replaced or fixed can run into the thousands, with a maximum of $4000 being spent. But it really depends on whether you are getting the engine replaced or repaired. Engines can cost as little as $500 second hand.

  1. The Car Battery of a Hybrid Car

Hybrid vehicles are more reliant on the car battery than normal cars. This can be a problem if the battery conks out. The cost of getting it replaced can make a dent in your bank account to the tune of between $1000 and $3500.

  1. Transmission

If anyone were to task you with the job of finding a more complicated piece of machinery than the transmission, it would be hard. And it is a very important part of the vehicle’s overall functioning quality. To get a transmission fixed, one usually must pay an upward of in between $4000 and $5000. Or it may just need a small part replaced that will only cost $20.

  1. Diesel Filter

Your average diesel engine will have one of these things on it so that the environment benefits. However, the amount of money it costs to have your diesel particular filter replaced can leave you $1000 or up to $3,500 poorer.

  1. Air Bags

Air bags are incredibly useful safety measures. Really, no amount of money can be put on the value of your life. That doesn’t make it any less of a shock to find out that in order to replace one when it accidentally deploys you must spend in between $2500 and $4000.

  1. Suspension

If you were to drive your car without any suspension, you would not have a good time. Every last stone and minor bump that the car went over would be felt. And on top of that, they cost up to $2500 and $3500 to get them replaced.

  1. Engine Control Unit

As vehicles get more and more advanced technology in them, the more of a major difficulty they are to get fixed.

Also, one such piece of relatively modern tech on today’s contemporary cars is the engine control unit. The cost of replacement? Around $3000 usually.

  1. Camshaft

Furthermore, inside the internal combustion engine, there is a part called the camshaft. Its function is to allow the exhaust valves, along with the inlet, open and close. Getting your car’s camshaft replacement will put you back by about an average of $500 for a brand new one, and $150 second hand.

  1. Head Gasket

A blown head gasket will lead to a burned out motor. This is something you definitely don’t want, as your car will not be able to drive. What is the head gasket? It provides a seal for the cylinders so that no coolant or engine oil leaks. Coolant and engine oil are both extremely important in moderating the engine’s temperature and keeping it from overheating. If there is a leak, these fluids will burn and billow smoke everywhere. The head gasket also keeps these fluids from mixing together. Getting one replaced costs up to $2000.

  1. Catalytic Converter

Getting this fixed or replaced is incredibly important for the environment. Your car’s functioning produces toxic substances, and the catalytic converter will be the major part that converts those gasses and what-not into mush less toxic ones. Your car will need to pass an emissions test in order to get its registration, so it will be in your best interest to fix it if it needs doing. The cost of doing this can be up to $1500 but it is well worth it.

  1. Brake Lines

One thing that all cars need to be able to do is stop. The function that allows this to occur is the braking function. And it needs brake lines in order to be able to do this. They are so important that if you were to cut someone’s brake lines, you would be essentially killing them. So don’t do that. What you should do, if your own brake lines need repairing, is get it done. Regardless of how much it costs. And it will cost you an average of $1000.

  1. Fuel Pump

If you often drive poorly due to bad habits, or you are no good at keeping your car properly maintained on a regular basis, the result can be a damaged fuel pump. Get it fixed by spending between $700 to $2000.

  1. Air Conditioning Compressor

There are different kinds of air. Two of them. High pressure and low pressure. Before your car’s Freon can cool your car’s air down on a sweltering hot day, those two kinds of air need separating. What does this? The air conditioning compressor. When one of these things needs to be replaced or repaired it normally costs about $500.

  1. Timing Belt

Furthermore, your car’s engine needs to have a certain rhythm kept. The part of your car that ensures that this is the case is the timing belt. If you don’t want the moving parts in your car to crash into each other this part needs to be in good condition. Get it fixed at the cost of $500 or thereabouts.

  1. Fuel Injectors

A certain amount of fuel has to be provided into the combustion engine. The fuel injector does this. The amount of money that you will spend on getting one fixed or replaced? Around about $500 is how much.
